What SubSnap does
SubSnap lets you paste a supported short-video link or upload an MP4, MOV or WebM file up to 2 minutes, then generates translated subtitles in one of 30 supported target languages so you can watch and download the result.
Data we process
- Video links you submit.
- Video files you upload and extracted audio created for transcription.
- Transcripts, generated subtitles, selected or automatically detected spoken language, selected target language, optional title, preview assets and result links.
- Email address used for login, account access and free-translation access.
- If you explicitly agree, we may send one short follow-up email about your translation feedback. This is not marketing.
- Basic usage counters, IP-derived hashes, device identifiers and security events needed to prevent abuse.
- Support messages, feedback and product requests you send to SubSnap, such as a requested subtitle language.
- Analytics consent choice and aggregated site-usage data if you accept analytics.
Purposes and legal bases
- Providing translation, subtitle generation, downloads, account login and dashboard history: performance of a contract or steps requested by you before using the service.
- Protecting SubSnap against spam, abuse, overload and security incidents: SubSnap’s legitimate interests.
- Google Analytics: your consent, which you can withdraw at any time through Cookie settings.
- Compliance with applicable legal obligations: legal obligation, where applicable.
File retention
Temporary processing files such as extracted audio are removed after processing when possible. The uploaded or downloaded video file, generated video, subtitle files and preview assets expire after 24 hours. For registered users, the history record can remain after files expire and show “File expired”.
Other retention periods
- Account records remain until you delete the account or request deletion.
- Login codes are short-lived and expire after approximately 10 minutes.
- Server logs and abuse-prevention counters are kept only as long as needed for security, diagnostics and rate limiting, then deleted or aggregated.
- Support messages, feedback and product requests may be kept while needed to answer you, improve SubSnap and keep a record of the request.
- Backups may temporarily contain account or operational records and are rotated according to SubSnap’s backup procedures.
AI processing and model training
When real AI processing is enabled, SubSnap sends extracted audio for transcription and sends transcripts/subtitle text plus the selected target language for translation and subtitle refinement. SubSnap currently uses Groq for transcription and translation in production, and the code also supports OpenAI as a fallback provider if configured.
SubSnap does not use your uploaded videos, audio, transcripts or subtitles to train its own models. AI providers process submitted data only to provide the configured transcription and translation services, subject to their applicable service terms and data-processing settings.

Analytics and cookies
SubSnap asks for analytics consent before loading Google Analytics. If you decline, analytics scripts are not loaded. If you accept, SubSnap uses analytics to understand product usage and improve the service. You may withdraw analytics consent at any time through the Cookie settings link in the footer.
Your rights
You may, where applicable, request access, correction, deletion, restriction or portability of your personal data, or object to its processing. You may withdraw analytics consent at any time through Cookie settings. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the French data-protection authority, the CNIL.
