Frequently asked questions

What does SubSnap do?+

SubSnap helps when captions are missing or unavailable in your language. Paste a TikTok, Instagram Reel or Facebook video, or upload a clip. SubSnap detects the spoken language and creates subtitles in the language you choose.

Is SubSnap free?+

Yes. Translate 1 video free — no account or card required. Create a free account and get 4 more translations, for 5 free translations in total.

Which videos are supported?+

SubSnap supports public TikTok, Instagram Reels and Facebook video links, plus MP4, MOV or WebM uploads. YouTube links are not available right now.

What is the maximum video length?+

Videos can be up to 2 minutes long. This is the current limit for the whole service, not only the free offer. Choose a shorter clip if your video is longer. Longer limits are being considered for future paid packs.

Why can’t SubSnap import my video link?+

The video may be private, deleted, expired, require a login, or the source platform may block server downloads. Check that the link is public. If it still fails, upload the original MP4, MOV or WebM file instead.

What does “region-restricted” mean?+

TikTok, Instagram or Facebook may make a video available only in certain countries. Your app may play it while SubSnap’s server cannot access it from its region. SubSnap cannot bypass that platform restriction, so upload the original video file instead.

What does “no speech detected” mean?+

SubSnap needs clear spoken audio to create subtitles. Silent clips, music-only videos, audio-only links, or speech that is too quiet may not work. Choose a video with audible speech.

Does a failed video use a free translation?+

No. A free translation is used only after SubSnap creates a successful result. A rejected link, invalid upload, timeout, or processing error does not use one.

How are the subtitles translated?+

SubSnap uses the context of the video to produce a natural translation instead of translating isolated words. Automatic subtitles can still contain mistakes, so verify important content.

Which subtitle languages are supported?+

SubSnap currently creates subtitles in 30 languages, including English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch, Polish, Czech, Slovenian, Romanian, Hungarian, Croatian, Serbian, Bulgarian, Greek, Turkish, Swedish, Norwegian, Danish, Finnish, Russian, Ukrainian, Arabic, Hebrew, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese.

Do I need to choose the spoken language?+

No. Auto-detect is recommended and works for most videos. You can choose the spoken language manually before processing if automatic detection is wrong or the audio is ambiguous.

Are Arabic, Hebrew and Asian subtitles supported?+

Yes. Arabic and Hebrew use right-to-left subtitle direction. Japanese, Korean, Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese use script-aware fonts and line wrapping in the preview and exported video.

Can I customize the subtitles?+

Yes. You can change their position, size, style, color and font weight before downloading the result. SubSnap is not a full video editor.

How long are my videos stored?+

Temporary processing files such as extracted audio are removed after processing. Video and generated result files expire after 24 hours. If you are signed in, the history record remains and shows “File expired” after the files are gone.
